About six years ago, I went to a Los Angeles location to join a group of a couple hundred people to take a government exam for employment as an appraiser.
I was one of the small a number to pass the test and get to the interview.
My collective score was not high enough to get a job, but even today, the following troubles me.
When taking the exam, I sat next to a fellow wearing a heavy watch the kept scraping across the table.
This made it harder to concentrate on some of the more difficult questions.
I would like to know if the exam results are merely pass/fail, or does it matter how well you score?
If it is pass/fail. then it doesn't matter if I was in this unlucky seat.
However, if score matters, I might have been an appraiser today if I had been assigned to any other seat without a scraping watch, since better concentration might have meant a higher score..
While I cannot comment about how California does things, in Florida it isn't pass/fail, you have to achieve a certain percentage/grade in order to pass. You can only miss x questions and still pass the test.
I have no desire at my age to take the test again.
I just gave it a shot.
But if ones precise score matters, I might have been an appraiser today if I would have been at a different table. The guy with the scraping watch was also one of the few who passed.
If it is pass/fail only. then I would not have made it anyway. I think my final score, including the interview was 90%
