Thought I would throw this out to the Real Estate forum since there are so many wise and helpful RE professionals and members who live around the country...
I have a friend who is a soon-to-be graduate of the University of Hawaii. She is looking to move to the mainland for graduate school and will want to get into the Real Estate market for her first home purchase in about two years, if not sooner.
Considering that median home prices in Hawaii are about $400,000K on my island and about $600K on Oahu, she's looking to narrow down her destination based on where she might be able to buy a nice starter home in the 200-250K range. (North East is out of the question--winters would be too much of a shock for her!)
The other major concern for her is music...she is a musician as well and wants to be in a place where there are lots of venues for music and an active, varied music scene.
Any thoughts? Her requirements are: good University, music, housing market she can break into under 250K, and generally warm weather.
Nashville, TN seems perfect to me. Vanderbilt is a great University and it is Music City. The winters are not extreme, but can be chilly. Rarely any snow either.
