Sounds like your budget is part of the problem OP.

As others have pointed out you have a problem, with a max you can afford to spend for a home. Apparently, the only homes in your price bracket are properties with problems that have forced the owners to lower the price down to your maximum price bracket.

You may not be able to find a home in the price range you are looking, except for discounted price problem properties.

This ^^. The problem(s) is your budget - too low for what you want, AND you are picky about the properties, too picky, IMO. You will not find perfection ANYWHERE, not just Florida. I live in the same city as you, and we bought a fantastic (for us) property in a great neighborhood. Got a great price but needs a lot of work which we will do over time. And we are in our 60s. At some point you need to make a decision, make a list of pros and cons and just pick a place that meets MOST of your needs. Pick one where you at least like the neighborhood, but remember NO PLACE comes with guarantees.

And EVERY state has its pluses and minuses. I am a Florida native, been to many other states but nowhere I would rather live. Never had any major problems with hurricanes, sinkholes or anything else. Mother Nature exists everywhere. I wish you luck.
