For the record, it wouldn't deter me from staying there. I think the history may make the experience more interesting. Especially if it were reverted to look somewhat like it would have when first built, but maybe with some modern amenities like AC added.

we bought two houses that were owned by warring spouses during a divorce. the enjoyment we had living in those two houses made the turmoil when we purchased them, which was significant, worth the problems. we loved living in both homes for years and sold them both for a very good profit. the home's history never deterred us because we loved the home.

How on earth on is the "history" of divorcing spouses homes comparable to the history of slave quarters on a plantation homesite?

some people think a house or property carries bad vibes to the new owners. I do not. an inanimate house isn't responsible for bad things that happen on the land it occupies or the previous owners.

Honestly? No I wouldn't buy it. I would be afraid of getting death threats.

My aunt bought an old plantation house and it had a slave jail behind the main house with the bars still in the windows. I thought it was cool. The place was haunted though. True story

No doubt. There’s plenty of places around here that you can feel the heavy of the past.

Partial digression but why do you say it was haunted?

I wouldn't want to profit off of that space. That would really bother me, but I would want the people that should have gotten profits from that land to get something from it.

Edit: Actually, I would not market it as profits going to the scholarships. I would just do it. It feels too gimmicky the other way, now that I think through it.
Silverfall, you are so on the mark. That's a very intelligent and sensitive idea. Thank you.
