The first house we bought, that's EXACTLY what the seller did....two weeks later, he came by looking for the HUGE electric kit he'd forgotten to take with him. I reminded him of his words when we found the missing bulbs "Until you signed on the line, everything in that house was mine - now, it's all yours." His greed over about 15-20 fifty-cent light bulbs cost him over $2k in electricians tools, some of which I still use to this day.
