A house for sale in Florida is drawing attention due to an unusual feature: a centuries-old oak tree growing through the middle of the home.
Stacey Purcell, owner of Gulfport Realty, said the "tree house" has proven difficult to sell due to the massive tree that passes through the middle of rooms including the kitchen.

What I'd like to see is the roof and attic area, because it would be very difficult to keep a roof watertight with a live tree growing through it. Mold, structural issues, foundation issues. Plus, now that this has gone viral, what about the current owner's insurance coverage??? Do they seriously think any buyer is going to be able to obtain new insurance with a tree growing up through the kitchen? Most likely buyer is going to be an investor paying cash, buying for the lot value as a tear down.
Someone with more money than brains will likely make a bid on this home.
I remember reading about this house previously and seeing pictures from the listing. A "tree-hugger" will likely buy it if they have enough money and willingness to do so. It will take just the right buyer, but definitely not me.
I like the concept of a tree growing thru the house, but the reality of having it right in front of the refrigerator door is just too much for me......
That house went under contract a few days after it went on the market and the sale closed on 8/23/2021 so apparently the tree didn't bother someone. It even sold at list price.
Why the kitchen? Maybe if it were in an atrium, or a playroom, or even a big airy stairwell, perhaps I could understand the appeal, but why put it in the kitchen?
