I like Dave Ramsey to an extent, but my experiences with his ELP's have been disappointing. I didn't use any because I didn't think they were any good. I tried a RE agent, an accountant, and an insurance provider. I didn't use any of them. Their prices/rates were outrageous and I didn't think they were remotely worth what they were asking for. Being the "endorsed local providers" seemed to go to their heads. They were cocky and I swear the accountant was about to tell me I was an idiot for doing my own taxes for the last decade. For $2,000 a year to hire him, I can miss a couple deductions! I'm self employed, so my taxes are more complicated, but not that complicated. I could walk down to HR Block and get it done for under $500. Did it myself with a good online website for $150.

My wife and I used an ELP agent from ReMax. We were dumped off onto a novice agent and were told he had many years of experience. We found out this wasn’t true. We asked for an agent that was a pit bull who was experienced with negotiation and provided excellent customer service. We were definitely going to be purchasing a new home! Well, the agent we got stuck with knew nothing about the market. My wife was the one who found the deals. He was supposed to have a bunch of properties for us to look at when we came down and didn’t even prepare for this..., kept us waiting over an hour as he tried to contact the owners to see if we could view their property. Of the 16 places we asked to see, we only saw 2-3 that week! The realtor’s response? “Well you’ll just have to come back another week!” We already took off work and paid for this trip and we get this type of cavalier response!?! I contacted ELP many times by email and twice by phone. I never once received a reply. While we did purchase a home, the seller’s realtor took us to the cleaners. The ELP realtor was clueless, ill-prepared, and selling us a home was definitely not much of a priority for him.

I’ve taught Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University for years and had a lot of respect for the organization, but after this experience and the lack of response from ELP corporate, I’m rethinking that. I definitely would NOT recommend going through ELP real estate to look for a realtor. Poor service with no accountability.

Yeah. I was talked into using a agent by a friend. I wasn’t impressed at all. He wasn’t very good
