My house hasn't been assessed in over 10 years!

I closed one this morning for $337k that's on the tax records at $355k. Next year he will take his closing statement to the county appraisal district & get the value down to what he paid for the house.

It's only worth what a willing buyer will pay.

Those property tax bills look outrageous.

Everyone may scoff at CA, but our property can only be assessed at 1% of the sales price (plus locally voted bond issues) and can only be increased 2% per year. Proposition 13 which gave us these rules celebrates it's 30th anniversary this year!

Yeah..but those low assessments and taxes have bitten California in different ways.

That's about the going rate in NJ. We were reasessed a few years ago..the county forced the issue as it had been 10 years, assessments versus selling prices...very wide margin
