Can someone chime in a give me an estimate of a yearly cost to maintain
an inground pool?

Just saw a home with an inground pool but I want to know more or less what I should expect to pay for maintence.

I'm located in the north burbs of Chicago.

thanx

Here in south west Florida most people budget around $100/ month for pool service.
In your area you have fewer months that you can use the pool, but getting a pool ready in the spring and winterizing in the fall are both time consuming. So I would guess the annual would be similar. For DIY much less, under $300 for chemicals.

It depends on the age of the pool and how long it stays warm in your area. I have had pools in my last 2 homes and use to figure the $100 a month figure. Nowadays with increased electricity, chemicals, service costs, proper care and maintenance I use $150 a month. I do not use a pool service which can run even more money.

As the pool ages you'll drop $400-500 every so often on pumps, filters, valves. After 7-10 years you will probably spend $2-4000 to have the pool resurfaced.

Pools need weekly attention especially in the summer.

Thanks for the help.

I wish I had more info on this pool but I don't.
It is a heated pool and not that big.
My realtor thought about $1K per year for maintenance.

It all depends on what is meant by maintenance. Generally speaking, a lot of people have their pools professionally opened and closed. In between, they do all the routine day to day stuff, themselves.

We had pools when we lived in NJ. The biggest cost factor was heating the pool.

We had a pool for 5 years a few years ago. It cost us about $40 each month to run the filters each day (6 hours per day), the water costs will be particular to your area in regards to the automatic refill due to evaporation, filters and necessary service was a good $500 per year. I think our pool cost us a solid $100 per month to run --- even in the winter you still had to keep the filters running year round.

We LOVED having a pool --- the first year we were in it all the time, the 2nd year less swimming, the 3rd year it was pretty to look at, years 4 and 5 it became our albatross!! We decided then to never buy another home with a pool and got memberships at a swim club and let someone else take on the liability and work!!!

We maintain our own pool so just the cost of chemicals.
Have had a pool now for 5 years - 2 different homes and we could not live without a pool now especially as we live in Texas !!!
