It s on now with Mayor Bloomberg talking to all the people who helped in the rescue...every station I think!
God was definitely looking out for all on board that aircraft. This is definitely a miracle.

I can't find the Parent magazine, only Parenting You're welcome. You deserve a window and if she doesn't want to give it to you then find another realtor. I will post about my appt today with the specialist after I finish this post.

I got the impression the guy was looking at the possibility of the $200,000's or lower. It is not going to happen, we will see what happens though because who knows how many other properties he is viewing or what the offer may be.

NJ you are so right they want something for nothing!!!
These people are trying to STEAL our houses from us! Don't let them do it!

Default Not good news.

Well, I had my appt today with the spine specialist. Not only do I have 2 bulging discs at C 4-6, and left nerve root impingement (pinched nerve), I also have spinal cord compression (this is the scary thing). I asked him if I could become paralyzed from this if I let it go (no surgery) and he said eventually over time I could end up with gait disturbances and then possibly no movement (paralysis). So, bottom line is... I have to allow someone to operate on my spinal cord/nervous system. I have been crying all day and extremely scared. We are going to wait until I finish taking the steroid taper--once that is completed we will wait it out for 6 weeks, then he will re-examine me and assess me for weakness and pain--if so, then he will schedule the surgery. If the pain comes back after the steroid taper is done--immediate surgery. He cannot inject it because of the location -- C4-6. If it were mid to lower back, then he would inject, but at the neck region that is core nerve bundles--too dangerous to inject.

I'm extremely upset because this is going to force me to take my house off the market and not move to Texas until this entire ordeal is over. There is a 3 month FULL recovery period after surgery.

I did speak to a nurse who recovers these types of surgeries and she said they are fairly simple and people usually have no problems post op. It requires an anterior approach, going in the front of my neck and removing bone/disks that are compressing the cord. Then taking bone from my hip/pelvis (another incision and will probably cause me more pain post op then the cervical incision) and grafting it to my spine where it should be. Basically a spinal fusion. They could use cadaver bone, but I have a 10% chance of rejecting that and only 2% chance of rejecting my own bone. If I reject...It will mean a 2nd surgery with posterior approach, so when the time comes...and it will ...I will go with my own bone.

On a lighter note...wonder if he can remove some fat down there at my hips?
Shelly

Texas,
That does sound scary. I would be very nervous too. (((HUGS)))

Well, dh is still in MN. (I don't think I told y'all that he works an outside job.) He says that if he's in TX by Friday that he'd like for me to fly out there and spend the weekend with him. The kids have another three day weekend that weekend and could stay with my mom while I'm gone. I haven't flown on a plane since I was 18, so the thought of it does make me a little nervous. I was never afraid of flying back then, but I was braver then than I am now.

Hey Texas Girl,

Sorry to hear about your medical issue, but it sounds like there is a wait-and-see approach, at least for awhile, to give you time to get your self prepared. Do you think you might want to get a second opinion? It couldn't hurt, and there might be an alternative, just maybe? Are you feeling better with the steroids? Hope you're comfortable. Are you out of work?
