Every night I lay me down to sleep I pray economic conditions creep (down), w-a-y down. Let's see and feel real pain, so far we've seen nothing. Let's see the real meddle of our fellow self-centered, myopic, whiny, entitlement demanding populace. A 20% + fall in home equity and Dow slipping under 10K is a good start. Let's get the cry-baby express off and rolling and shakeout all the padded excesses in our voodoo economy.
It's a bit obscure, but I actually think I get what he's saying. I believe this a likely a guy who believes he had made conservative, financial decisions over the course of his life and has very little personal debt or money tied up in risky investments. At the same time he is concerned about our economy which is tied to a culture of borrow and spend and is intrigued (in a slightly masochistic way) at the prospect of what would happen if the course of the economy radicially changes and life as usual is no longer. I sometimes wonder about the mettle of ourselves as a Nation and how we would weather truly difficult financial times.
All this said, I'm not sure it's relavant to this forum, other than the obvious impact a significant economic calamity would have on the housing market. Perhaps he is alarmed that such a calamity is nigh, given the current economic signals.

That describes me pretty well. Sure, the American dependence on (increasing) debt, the medical care morass, and the falling and/or negative US savings rates are troubling, but:
I'm also struggling to understand just what is America's place in this rapidly growing global economy, and what is happening to our moral compass as a nation that once conveyed trust and respect by example. Are we to become a nation of 7-8% super wealthy lording over a growing debtor class? I wonder if our world influence is more than just our military 'persuasion' to control cascading events that are becoming more convoluted at every turn. I admit I'm really worried, and I just can't understand why there's so much apathy in this country.
