Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows he process to figure out estimated taxes on building a new 2000 sf home in Mt. Sinai NY? I see some wide ranges of taxes (7000-19000 a year)! Some houses are large with lower taxes and vica versa.

I don't want to build a home and get hit with a 19000 dollar annual tax bill (wont be able to afford it!)

Also what is a reasonable price per acre in the Mt.Sinai? Considering the economy etc I would think there would be some good deals!

Thanks for your input.

You need to call the Suffolk County Tax Assessors office. The taxes up there depend on when the house was built, if they have the tax incentives (I forget what it was called up there..) applied, the property size, whether property taxes were protested, etc. Only they can really estimate the taxes for you properly. You're more than welcome. I used to live there, that's why I know.
And, the tax program that I couldn't remember the name of is the Star program. You should inquire as to when your property would be eligble for the discount it affords.
