What are the chances that the home buyer credit will be extended beyond April 30th?

I'd say slim, but you never know.

My guess is it won't be extended. As far as I know, there has not been any serious movement in congress to extend it and time is almost out.

I would say none. We heard rumors last time - quiet now. It's almost gone.

Slim to none with the odds on none. In other words, forget it. I don't know about the rest of the agents but around me suddenly everyone realizes that the time is up and buyers are running around like crazy.

I haven't had a day off for over two months. They are coming out of the woodwork in a frenzy. What is it with human nature that makes certain people wait until the very last second? Several agents I know aren't even returning phone calls from past potential buyers that have suddenly turned up again in a panic. No one has the time for everyone. Title companies and lenders are equally exhausted.

We started our house hunt search in the beginning of March and we don't like waiting until the last minute but we have a apartment lease that expires September 1st so we are trying to buy out our lease with the least amount of months remaining as possible!

My guess would be it won't be as well. I have always been told that spring/summer is when most sales occur (no stats to back it up, but what I have always heard). That being said, the incentive would need to be less in the 'peak times' Also, they all expire at some point, no word that it's getting an extension, it will be gone after the end of the month.

I don't know if it will be extended or not, but I hope it isn't. DH and I are trying to buy a home. We live in the one of the top 10 of the worst housing markets in the US. Regardless of this banks are raising prices on bank owned and short sale houses because of the credit. We made an offer (asking price) on a short sale and the bank raised the price $25k after we waited 3 months for their answer. The real estate agent for the sellers told them it is a ridiculous price for the house and neighborhood but they won't listen. They actually told the agent that we would get the $8k credit so it's a good deal. We didn't buy the house. Our RE agent knows the seller's RE agent and the sellers aren't getting any offers at that price. I think the credit is stalling the market. At least here it is.
