I'm refinancing and was told that a lot survey is required as part of the title review process. However when we bought the house in 2007, we were told that a survey couldn't be found (even though there's been 2 previous owners). Should I trust that assessment or call the Wake County courthouse and find out? I'd rather not pay for a new survey if I don't have to.

Out here those aren't held at the courthouse, but at the surveyor's office. I'd check to make sure that you are looking in the right place.

Ditto California;

My county offers all the surveys from 1850 on, on a DVD which I have on my server in my office.
