In a few days, we (husband and I) will be moving to a small ski town. The cabin's fireplace is cleaned and the shed is full of firewood, so all I will have to think about, while husband unpacking our 78 boxes of belongings, is what to put in our tummies. I am planning to cook a few pots of good winter soup as staples for nourishment for the first weeks. I have a handful of recipes in my repertoire and can get many more off the Internet easily enough, but I would like to know if y'all have a favourite winter soup recipe, one that would make you feel warm and happy just from the thought of it.

Please share, unless the recipe is your family's secret.

I love:

Split Pea with ham
Potato and Broccoli
Cheddar Cheese
French Onion au Gratin
Matzoh Ball
Chicken and Dumpling
Won Ton
Steak and Potato
New England Clam Chowder
Lobster Bisque

two local regional soups for Philadelphia are wonderful but not generally available outside this area:

Pepper Pot Soup - the only thing that has tripe in it that I like
Snapper Soup - this is a turtle soup (not fish) and a dash of sherry makes this divine!

I made Caribbean Pepper Pot before, but I had to look up Philadelphia Pepper Pot Soup (they are not the same, duh! )

I do like tripe so I definitely will try that soon. There are several recipes on the Internet; from your experience, are they all good?

Winter soups...

Sharks fin, that is very very warming since it is a thick soup (Chinese New Year fav.)
Korean Samgyetang... very very warming as well (Homemade fav. or a staple at Korean eatery)
Hot & Spicy Tom Yum / Tom Ka (From my fav. Asian place)
Korean Tofu & KimChi Casserole (Korean Place)
Oxtail... again, warming effect
Curry Beef Stews
Can't beat a bowl of chili... especially when made with beer in it
My fav. thanksgiving Butternut squash & crab bisque... another thick soup
French Onion Soup... cheesy, soft & pipping hot for the winter blues
A nice bowl of Pho!!!!

I do love my soups... year round.

I have never cooked a Korean dish; would you share your personal recipes, if you have one?

(Too much work to cook pho for only two people, BTW, and I failed the butternut squash the only time I made it. Somehow it did not taste the way it supposed to.)

In the winter, I like nice robust corn chowders, cream of potato, beef stew, posole, and spicy chili.
