Here's my recipe for Sausage Bread. I've been making this since the early 1980's. When I worked and I would take it on snack day, I was Queen for the Day!! I make this with Pillsbury Hot Roll Mix, however a couple of times I thawed out frozen bread dough to make it....I prefer the Hot Roll Mix. Makes two huge loaves about 13 to 15 inches long!

SAUSAGE BREAD
2 pounds of Italian or hot sausage (or one of each....I prefer the Italian)
6 Tablespoons Parmesen cheese
3 cups mozzarella cheese
2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons onion powder
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon parsley
1 teaspoon dried chives
1 Box Pillsbury Hot Roll Mix

Brown sausage, drain and rinse with hot water to reduce the grease and then let the sausage cool completely. After cooled, mix with all of the above ingredients except the roll mix.

Mix the hot roll mix according to the directions on the box, except only let dough rise once for 15 minutes.

After rising for 15 minutes, separate the dough in half and roll out half (on lightly floured board) until a rectangle of 15 x 10 inches. Put half the sausage mixture on each rectangle (down the 15 inch middle) and roll tightly into a log shape, tucking in the end. Use both hands to carefully turn the seam side down on a greased/Pam sprayed cookie sheet. Until you get onto this, you might need another pair of hands to make sure it doesn't come apart.....with practice it becomes easy.

Beat one egg and brush each loaf completely, including sides, with the beaten egg. Bake 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Let cool completely before wrapping and be sure to refrigerate the leftovers.

You will be immensely popular!!

My mom does something similar using pizza dough.
My mom's Sausage Roll:

2 fresh pizza doughs (leave out for 1 hour before using) combine both doughs into one big dough
1 1/2 lb lb sweet Italian sausage, casing removed
1 red bell pepper chopped
1 green bell pepper chopped
1 medium onion chopped
2 garlic cloves minced.

brown sausage, drain a set aside in a bowl, Saute onion, garlic and pepper. Cook until tender and add to sausage. Work dough into a rectangle. Spread evenly with sausage and pepper mixture and roll lenghtwise like a jelly roll. Seal edge and brush with oil. Twist roll into a horseshoe shape. Brush top with oil and sprinkle sesame or poppy seeds on top. Bake on a cookie sheet for 40 minutes on 375 or until roll is browned on top.
