There are so many, some with cheese wiz, some with canned onions, some with fresh broccoli, some with frozen, some with rice. What is your favorite? and if the recipe calls for a box of frozen broccoli and I have fresh should I precook it before putting it in the casserole even if the recipe calls for it to cook 1 hour?

I have never made anything with hamburger and broccoli. I make lots of chicken/broccoli dishes. I almost always use fresh broccoli and just blanch it first. I cut it up, toss it in boiling salted water and let it cook only about 2 minutes until it turns bright green. Then drain and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process.
OMG, when we were kids my mom used to make this casserole we called "Cheese Whiz Yuck." She used ground beef, broccoli, Cheese Whiz, bread crumbs, smoked cheddar, and heaven only knows what else.
I ended up making a casserole with ground beef, onions, cream of mushroom soup, mushrooms, rice and velveeta. I'll let you know how it turns out. I too usually make chicken and broccoli so this will be different for me. Hope they like it.
I think that receipe would taste better with brussel sprouts.
