Jjust tried this and, like Coke floats, I wouldn't want it every day but it's a different treat. I liked the ice cream part better than the drink part and that surprised me -- because I love ginger ale. I have always loved the old, old standard punch of ginger ale and lime sherbert. Wonder what other flavors of ice cream would work with the ginger ale?

Ice Cream Soda Sparklers

Ingredients

6 tablespoons cherry - flavored syrup
48 oz ginger ale, chilled
12 maraschino cherries
6 (1/2 - cup ) scoops vanilla (or other flavor) ice cream

Prep

Chill (12 - 16oz) soda glasses in freezer for 30 minutes
Chill ginger ale

Steps
1. Drizzle 1 tablespoon cherry syrup around insude rim of each glass. Slowly add ginger ale (leaving room for ice cream).
2. Add 2 cherries to each, then add ice cream (the ginger ale will foam underneath the ice cream). Serve.

From Publix Aprons Simple Meals

Aprons Advice suggests using Birthday Cake flavored ice cream for a red, white and blue dessert sparkler.
This is probably one of Publix's private label ice cream brands and must be red white and blue. I'm sure there are others you can subsitute. That does sound pretty.

I'm trying to remember what I really, really liked at one of the drugstores growing up. It wasn't your usual run of the mill shake, etc. -- not that those weren't good! It seems like the drugstore combined carbonated water with ice cream and some other goodies and served the drink in a soda glass. Does anyone remember a drink that sounds similar?

I also like the ice cream part of ice cream soda, but my best combination is Sweetened, bubbly Ice cream soda with creamy & versatile vanilla float ice cream.
