Ok, I made a chicken stew tonight, and its lousey! I doubt another hour of simmering will help any.

I just decided to use what I had on hand,a sort of potluck. Well, seems my luck ran out! Here's what I did:

4 chicken breasts--boiled for ~ 3 hours. I did leave the skin on, perhaps that was the problem, too much fat?

Well, added:

One diced sweet potato

2 diced onions

4 zucchini diced

One large, diced apple

two cans tomatoes

Hey, like I said, it was use up the leftovers night!

It just doesn't taste right! I added salt, pepper, garlic salt, parsley flakes...it still tastes flat, kinda weird!

Well, if all else fails, I can rescue the chicken and make sandwiches!

Well that is one wildly odd recipe! Can tomatoes and sweet potato???? Zucchini and apples.. Where do I begin?? I think I'd salvage the chicken (3 hours?) and toss the rest. Hunt for a new recipe?

P.S. Oh I see you used leftovers ...but I would have left some out. I like to keep different bouillon's on hand for stew and soups.

Sweet potato, apple & onion or tomato, zucchini and onion, mixed together not so good. I would salvage the chicken and make some sandwiches.

3 hours is a really long time for chicken- maybe an hour next time. I can't see tomatoes, apples and sweet potatoes mixing well, but maybe that's just me. If you have to eat it as is maybe something spicy like Tony's creole seasoning will make up for some of the bland. I am not sure. My flops end up dog food (if they will touch it) and pizza or pasta night lolol.

Just saw where SATX56 said the boullions for soups and stews- I agree there, I always have those as well.

Wow, that does not sound very good. I think 3 hours was too long to cook the chicken. I would have used a crock pot and added all the ingredients together and then before serving, pull out the chicken breasts and take the skin off and shred and add back into the stew. I would have used regular potatoes and not sweet potatoes. The apple definitely didn't belong in there. The tomatoes were fine, i"d add 1 onion instead of two, zuccini is fine, and then I would have added sliced carrots, and maybe sliced celery.

Hey, it ended up pretty good!

I added some worchestshire sauce, and a can of tomato paste. I know, sounds even weirder, but not so bad!

The chicken literally fell apart, like strings, no way to make sandwiches. I think it will be even better tomorrow. DH said well, it won't kill us! Hey, its the end of the month, gotta stretch those pennies somehow!

The sweet potato and apple just dissolved into the broth. It thickened the broth, and did add a different taste.
