I confess, the only kind of I've used comes out of a jar that I add to stir fried rice and vegetables.
Does anyone have a good recipe for black bean and garlic sauce that doesn't come out of a jar? I'm thinking of having a homemade Chinese dinner - I've made the rice, I've got the shrimp, scallions, cabbage, garlic, black beans, etc. I'm also making orange chicken. Thanks in advance.

Did you do a search online? I've actually never even seen black bean sauce in a jar however, I cannot imagine it is that difficult. Cooked black beans probably pureed and add the garlic, maybe a bit of salt and papper then heat it through but again, I'm guessing because I have never seen it, made it nor tasted it that I am aware of.

I did find this article so I am completely wrong in what I stated earlier, I'm glad I looked it up and I have learned something new about food today.

Terrific. Now I have a HUGE craving for chicken in black bean sauce or shrimps in black bean sauce. That stuff in the jar doesn't hold a candle to the "real deal," I've found. It just tastes nothing like the stuff I get from a restaurant. I've never tried to make it myself -- I just figure it won't come out right either -- so I'm curious to know your results. Good luck!

Thanks! One of my co-workers suggested that I go to a restaurant and purchase the sauce directly from them. She claims she does this whenever she is dining out and the restaurant has a salad dressing or sauce that she enjoys. I want to do this for dinner, so there is no time for that.
