Themometer, when they get to 165 your good to go. I would expect that on high for 4hour is about 1 hour past done. However that would depend on the consistency of the soup. Thicker more stuff longer time, less stuff less time.
If you have a good crock pot and you have it on high, 4 hrs should work...Like Bulldog said, check the temp, I would do that after about 3 to 3.5 hrs. That will give you a good idea.
