Once a week, I spent an hour or so making snacks. What are your favorite snacks?

This week it is "Cheesy" kale chips (cheese is from nutritional yeast flakes-seriously delicious and I am not vegan lol), saltines with carrot oil and ranch seasoning blend (baked for 20 minutes), brown sugar/cinnamon candied walnuts and slivered almonds, oven baked wasabi/soy sauced tortilla chips.

My family are huge snackers and I am always on the lookout for more "chips" type snacks. I am heading to the market tomorrow to shop and need more ideas. Especially Indian, Asian etc.

(And other than the usual fruits, berries, cheese, yogurt, hummus, bean dip etc. I am thinking more like creative snacks with seasoning combo etc and can be stored in baggies for the week)

We snack on fruit, raw veggies, and nuts, both raw and roasted.

Actually, there isn't a lot of snacking in my family.

My family are huge snackers. Especially my husband and youngest (plus she's vegetarian). So I need to stock my pantry with snacks for them. I don't like too much of the processed stuff and try to make most of it at home. Next week I am experimenting with lentil chips. (youngest favorite)

Chile or chile lime peanuts.

Spiced pecans or walnuts- can be made savory instead of sweet

I love those Japanese chile rice crackers, which I'll mix with chile peanuts to have a more balanced snack.

My Dad makes his own trail mix from unsalted peanuts and chocolate chips.

Those are great. Target used to have Habanero Pistachios that were crazy-good. I guess I was the only one who bought them because they were discontinued.

Sometimes a piece of fruit, or a banana smoothie. Other times it might be pretzels or Low fat Ice cream. I am not a big snacker but hubby is. Most of my snacking is around 3 pm. I try not to snack as much after 7 pm.

Am I weird? I don't "snack". I don't even get the concept of a snack. To me this is simple eating because you haven't eaten sufficient meals, or because of greed or boredom or addiction. The need to eat things simply because they are available, or taste good, or the urges to eat between or instead of meals sounds tasty, seems odd to me. Why eat when you're not actually hungry? I don't get that. **

I eat 2-3 meals per day when I get hungry but have never had the urge to eat during movies, while driving, in the evening, before meals, or anything like that like so many people do.

Maybe it's cultural; I did not grow up in the US. All of my growing-up years, "snacks" were simply not even in our family consciousness. I'm thin, my family is thin, always have been, so I do wonder if "snacking" is one of the factors driving the global obesity epidemic and the US obesity epidemic in particular.

**Edit to add: I adore food and cook and eat plenty of it and avoid processed diet crap. What I don't get is eating when I am not actually hungry.

I was so bummed when they discontinued the Habanero Doritoes (never tried the pistachios), for two years that was my snack.

We do snacks once a week for a treat because we're strict with our diet the rest of the time. Usually a small bag of either bold flavored chex mix, lays chips, or spicy nacho doritoes to go with crushed ice and coke. We call it our weekend 'party.'

My favorite is Lays vinegar chips. I wish they made the small bags because I'm stuck with the entire bag feeling guilty.

I was raised here and I don't snack either so I get what you're saying. My youngest eats about five or six small meals/snacks a day. And she doesn't eat meat so maybe that's why? My husband works out daily so he eats more to replenish. Both loves flavor and variety in addition to the typical snacks as I mentioned in the OP. They like raw cashews, I can do those with the chili and zest of lime flavor! Thanks for the idea.

Growing up in California, my chile peanut of choice was Planter's brand. When I moved to Texas, I couldn't find those in any of my local grocery stores, so I "discovered" the bulk bin chile peanuts from Sprout's grocery, which I highly recommend! They use Virginia peanuts which are so much more delicious than the average peanut from a can or jar. They're also inexpensive.
