Could someone please share their fabulous cabbage roll recipe?
I have made them many many times, but I never make them the same way twice, because they are never the perfect recipe. Some I have made are "Barbara Walters Mother's", Swedish koldomar, and Emeril's and about a dozen others.
I have been all over the internet, and try a new recipe every time I make them but I still don't think I've nailed it.
Do you have the perfect cabbage roll recipe?
I don't know if it they are perfect but they are very good when I make them in my slow cooker.
Ingredients:
1 large head of cabbage (12 large cabbage leaves)
Boiling water to cover the cored head of cabbage
1-1/2 pound diced chuck (stir fry in two tablespoons of butter)
1/4 cup chopped onion
4-5 finely diced garlic cloves
2 finely diced jalapenos
1 package of pepper jack cheese sticks
1 cup rice
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon paprika
2 cups tomato sauce
1/2 cup beef broth
Preparation:
Core cabbage and place in a large bowl; pour boiling water over to cover. Let stand for about 5 minutes, or until the cabbage has wilted. Drain and carefully remove the whole leaves. Trim off the heavy stem and flatten leaves somewhat. Combine meat, chopped onion, garlic jalapenos, rice, egg, salt, pepper, and paprika. Put about 2 tablespoons of this meat and rice mixture and ¼ of a pepper jack cheese stick on each cabbage leaf; fold sides in and roll up. Secure rolls with toothpicks. Place rolls seam side down in crockpot. Pour the tomato sauce and broth. Cook on low, covered, for 6 to 8 hours.
