In New England, squash pie is more prevalent than pumpkin pie. Butternut, acorn and pumpkin, or any sort of winter squash, are used interchangeably. I'd still go for the canned pumpkin, since I'm pretty lazy.

Canned pumpkin is squash, similar to butternut.
