I once tried putting all the recipes from my recipe box on my computer. At the time, my only computer was in the office, so I'd have to go print the recipe when I wanted to use it. Then, I'd stuff the printed recipe back in the recipe box.
Now, I use the recipe box for old standbys, and the laptop for a quick recipe.

The thing I really didn't like is, I wanted the old, stained recipe card from 1975, not a scan of the old recipe card on my computer screen.

That's like what Giles said about books. "Smell is the most powerful trigger to the memory there is. A certain flower, or a-a whiff of smoke can bring up experiences long forgotten. Books smell musty and-and-and rich. The knowledge gained from a computer is a... it, uh, it has no-no texture, no-no context. It's-it's there and then it's gone. If it's to last, then-then the getting of knowledge should be, uh, tangible. It should be, um, smelly." from BtVs, "I, Robot.....You, Jane".
