IMHO, the proper technique for eating a mince pie, sweet as they are, is one bite, swallow, then a gulp of hot but unsweetened proper black tea (with milk). Repeat as necessary until down to crumbs.

Old-Fashioned Mincemeat Pie Recipe from 1798 - Our Heritage of Health

Here is an old recipe updated to work in today's kitchen. I have been meaning to try this but haven't yet. I'm thinking I should try this on Christmas week. If you make this or one of the other recipes please let us know. I am so curious!

There are places in London that make and sell mince pies containing meat today. I already named two of them.

Tou can buy jars of ready made mince (no) meat at Cost plus. If you find it too sweet, add more dried fruit to thin it out a bit & let soak overnight in tea OR brandy.

I love Mince pies, I don't make my own mince and buy None Such brand..

I didn't make one this year, in fact I didn't even think about it.
I'm the only one that eats it though, last year a brought some to a few people who have never tried it, it went over pretty well but apparently not enough that they asked for more..
