A spice that you can use on almost anything to brighten up a dish. I am thinking garlic salt but I know very little about spices so others probably have better ideas(maybe).
Also, I am afraid of adding spices to dishes that I don't anything about because after all the work of preparing a dish I don't want to ruin it. Spices scare me, but then I am new to using them.

Salt is technically a mineral, so I'll go with types of peppers...red, white, black, green, etc.

Tough question to answer (for me anyway) - all I can think of is MSG and that isn't a spice, is it? So yeah - peppers I guess.

Suggestion: Dump the garlic salt. Use garlic powder, if you want (and I sometimes do) and salt. NOT both mixed together.

Plain old black pepper. Most people don't use enough because they are afraid of being to "spicy" and instead under season. That along with salt (which I know some people have to restrict and we minimize) gives a base from which to build other herbs and spices on. Don't be afraid of spices, try them and see what you like. Spice is like paint. If you find you don't like one it's easy to try another.
