I found a bunch of inexpensive chicken gizzards & need to boil them for hours before frying with onions. For those who know, the smell is so strong, it's nice to be able to boil them outdoors, if possible.
I've put them into a slow cooker overnight & placed the crockpot outside (which rendered a lovely, soft gizzard), but I did so in SoCal & FL... no cold temps.
Now that I'm in IA & the temps dip down to 40 at night, could I place my tiny 1-1/2 qt crockpot outdoors on the balcony in 40-degree temps overnight, or would the heating element burn out? I also have a 5-6 qt crockpot & can do the same, should the heating element be more durable.
Anyone use a crockpot outdoors?
BTW, I only want to do so to prevent my house from smelling gnarly for 2-3 days. I know how to cook indoors & can wait for summer to be able to safely place the crockpot outdoors... just would like to do it now, if I won't destroy the crockpot.
