I had a cake from a bakery a while ago, it was a tres leches cake, or a milk cake. It was "wet" inside, not just moist. It was a Mexican or hispanic bakery I think.. I was wondering if anyone had a recipe for something similar??

Tres Leches is basically just sponge cake imbibed with a mixture of three kinds of milk. If you aren't in the mood to bake a spongecake, you can always substitute a cake made from yellow cake mix. Mix 1 can evaporated milk, 1 can condensed milk, and 1 pint of whole milk or cream depending on the level of richness you want. You can even use cream of coconut if that is your thing - and top the cake with toasted coconut flakes - yum!

I saw an episode devoted to the milk cake on the food network. It was on the show Good Eats. I bet you could find a recipe there.

LOVE Tres Leches. Tres Leches means 3 milks. It is a mexican dessert and VERY GOOD!!! Super moist and even the box caked ones can be just as good. Use cool whip or whipping cream on top for the icing and then the toasted coconut. YUM!!! Okay, gee thanks for mentioning this......... urgh. Now I want some.

Dont h8--

Thanks, but can you be more specific? Do I still bake the cake as the box calls for if using a yellow cake mix? Sponge cake sounds more authentic but I have no idea how to make that!

Yes, yes, bake the cake according to the box directions. I already posted a very simple recipe for spongecake in another thread - //www.city-data.com/forum/1715129-post2.html
