I'm not sure what sort of lemon tree is here, it was planted years ago by the fellow who built the house. They are sweeter than some lemons, but still tart and tangy. We just squeeze or slice them into water and drink it as a tangy drink. There is stevia if we want it sweeter, though, I suppose. That also grows in the yard.

For my Lemonade I make a simple syrup of a cup of water and 1.5 cups of sugar. Boil until clear. Then I add 1.5 cups of lemon juice (yes, from the bottle from the grocery store). Mix all that together and then fill the remainder of a 2 qt pitcher with water. Mix well. Add lemon slices if you wish for garnishment. It's great! I'm southern through and through and I get asked for this "authentic" recipe!

OMG soonerguy, I couldn't believe someone else besides me, makes Lemonade the same way I do. I too use 2 packets of unsweetened Kool-Aid Lemonade, 1-1/2 cups of sugar, 2 quarts of water, but I only use the juice of 1-lemon. Budget wise, this is a cheap way to make a good lemonade!

For years I have let 3 neighbors take my lemons off my tree & they have never once offered me a glass of lemonade or piece of lemon pie. I told them a few days ago to no longer remove any lemons off my tree because the lemons are for my family (I don't have many lemons left). I have had my lemon tree for over 16 years & have never once made any lemonade. I prefer store bought lemonade. Needless to say my 3 neighbors were not happy campers but I could care less.

FYI: the stuff that makes lemons tangy is citric acid. Citric acid is in all citrus fruits - that's why "citrus" and "citric" sound so much alike. So if they added more citric acid, it's probably because they added sweeteners that muted the flavor, and had to add back in the tang. But ALL lemonade should contain citric acid. If it doesn't, then it wasn't made with actual lemons.

Not sure if this one has been posted, but here's my lemonade recipe:

Make the syrup, first:

Cook 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water for 3 minutes. Cool.

6 cups water, then add 1 1/2 cups syrup. Add 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon fresh squeezed lemon juice.
Don't ask "why the 1 tablespoon"......Don't know, but this lemonade is the best.
