Since Thanksgiving is coming up and I have to do all the cooking this year I'm looking for a great sweet potato pie recipe for my husband. He prefers them over the classic pumpkin and I have never made one before. His grandma is coming(queen of the sweet potato) and really don't want her to make me feel like crap about this pie! Any help?

I love this recipe, it never fails to garner rave reviews!
I have used the piecrust recipe, if I am in a hurry, I just use Pillsbury rolled crusts.....

Sweet Potato Pie

1 large sweet potato
1 cup sugar
3 eggs, beaten
Pinch of salt
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup mini marshmallows
9" pie pastry, unbaked

Preheat oven to 350. Peel & slice sweet potato. Cook potato in a small amount of water until tender; drain & mash to measure 1 cup. Beat together sugar & eggs. Add sweet potato, salt, vanilla, nutmeg & melted butter; mix well & stir in milk. Sprinkle bottom of pie pastry with marshmallows. Pour potato mixture into pastry & bake 1 hour.

Marshmallows will rise to the surface to create a topping.

What about asking Grandma for her family recipe? Tell her you want to continue the tradition ...

(I know, sometimes that's almost impossible. But maybe it's worth a chance)

I agree with Gandalara. Even if someone gives you the best blue ribbon award winning recipe for Sweet Potato Pie, it won't equal Grandma's.
