Brown the beef. Add the beans. Heat through (a crock pot works wonderfully)
We taught our son this when he was 9. He was designated cook at all Cub and Boy Scout events until he left Texas. It's mild, it's chili-lite, it's easy, it's inexpensive. A 4 way win.
Boil macaroni to taste. Pour into baking dish, add a fair amount of pepper and stir.
Slice about 8 ounces of regular Velveeta and mix into noodles.
Add 3/4 cup milk. Don't use 1/2 and 1/2; the taste is too rich and will clash with bacon..
Now lay strips of raw bacon across the top of the macaroni in the casserole. Just use hardwood smoked, nothing strange, I prefer Oscar Mayer, standard slices, not thick. For the two cups of macaroni six strips is about right; but cover the top of the macaroni and other ingredients completely.
Bake at 325 for 45 minutes or until bacon is fork tender. (It won't become crisp)
This is good stuff, really too good for a bunch of kids you don't even know.
I've decided to go with beans (black) and tomatoes, onions and green peppers and rice. I make it for our family and call it our chili (no meat). Add it on top of rice...it should make a decent amount for a potluck.
I would not want to be in that classroom after lunch with the beans and those kids...LOL
The original post is 2 yrs old. I think the children have eaten
