Nothing to do with Irish tempers , Mares. It's the entitled attutude, esp from men who come from the countryside : They sometimes do it , even though they may be otherwise, very nice men. It's a cultural, habirual thing- as with MOST THINGS in life. It's like being on autopilot, no thinking involved.

Was that the first time that happened? If not, then you got some thinking to do and I am not talking about just the knife incident. Some folks are just lazy and inconsiderate sometimes...but if your SO constantly acts like that, it's time for a little talk.

It is rude to do that to someone. It sounds like a selfish and lazy person would do something like that.

I would have playfully said give me back my &*^%!@# knife and get your own, dude.

Eta after reading the post above mine, there may be something else going on. But I would have assumed that my SO was being lazy and playful.

HA! I would have said well you "thought" wrong and took my knife back. You handled it well 2mares, I would have yanked his fork away and let him either eat with his hands or get up to get another one.

I think you have something there. I live in rural, southern, 10 years behind the time country where you still see engraned traditional gender roles and I guess thats why Im pretty vocal on those topics.

My SO is a good person, he is kind and generous and caring but as much as I hate it I have had to do some behavioral modification for some things I just cant accept. I guess this incident is just one of those things and Im reading too much into it.

Thanks. I didnt think I handled it well because after I said WTF, I just got up and went outside. I got angry and probably read too much into it and figured I should go out before I said something that I might regret later.
