Probably not all that different than why anyone is single at any given age. Have not met someone they wanted to marry, are divorced, are widowed, etc.

Single people are single because:

they have not met the person they want to commit to yet

they've been hurt and aren't anxious to get hurt again

they're divorced, widowed, etc.

they've concentrated on their career and haven't had time to socialize

they have been busy getting an education

they have family obligations

they don't want to settle

they don't want to be married

etc.
