There is a lady at my job, this older Italian woman who's son lives at home still at age 39. He's never been married, has an on and off g/f. Works but doesn't pay for anything to the parents and it just blows my mind why on earth ANYONE at that age would want to live at home...LOL I've been on my own since I was a teenager, love the indepedence that comes along with it and loved living on my own before. I couldn't wait for my own kids to be out of the house soon after they graduated. They both live on their own. I'd never encourage any less from them.

Blows me away that anyone above the legal age to leave home would want to live with their parent/s.

I do. He's been out of work for a while. But he's still looking while going back to school to change careers since his previous choice didn't work out. He's also living in a city that's been hit especially hard. He's willing to move to another city for work, but he has to finish school first.

He inheirited the house after his mom's passing, and he is still there now by himself. His brother and sister, of similar ages, both moved out after high school and never came back.

He's always made good money and is responsible with it, so it's not like he couldn't afford his own place. He's pretty quiet and antisocial, never had a girlfriend that we're aware of.
He must be a multi millionaire.

However my family seriously questioned my decision to move out. I contributed to household expenses, but there was no rent to pay (I was with my Grandparents...their home is paid off). I felt very self-conscious as a single, working 30 y/o woman without her own place. So I got an apartment. And 4-5 days out of the week, I still stay with my Grandparents because it is lonely at my home alone. So I guess I pay rent for a place I only use sometimes...{sigh}
Its cheaper to live together where everyone contributes, so its a win-win for everyone financially. Why should you have to throw away money in rent and not grow?

Is he Asian? I myself don't like to live alone. Age has nothing to do with living with someone. Some kids have too much freedom in America and that is why there is a problem with drugs and violence. Why would you want to throw your kids out after high school?

My Uncle is 50 and he was living with his parents until they told him recently he couldn't come back. He was living with them on and off.
