Yesterday, a guy from Turkey added me as a friend on Facebook. He wants to teach me about Turkish language and culture. I know nothing about it, but I would like to learn a little.
I just went to Istanbul last month and am friends with several Turkish immigrants. Are you blonde? They really go for blonde women there. Something you should know about Turkish men in general, they are VERY flirtatious, even when you are obviously with a boyfriend or husband. Turkish men are generally ladies' men and so I would take this as not just a platonic pen pal thing. Also they are very aggressive and persistent, but somehow they manage to be so nice and so charming that they make it very difficult for you to say no. If you friend him back, be prepared for this to become a demanding relationship. Hey, who knows, maybe it's time for mail-order husbands if the city can't supply you the doting men you might be looking for.
The guy told me a little about Turkish culture and asked me questions about New York. He saw my picture and said that I look beautiful, and he likes white women.
I'd go for it and learn Turkish. Though that might just be me. I love learning languages.
I've never come across the tendency to flirt from the Turks I've met, in Italy, Austria, and Washington, D.C. So I'm not really sure where that's coming from. It may be that what are just meant to be sincere compliments in other countries are taken to be flirtation. I may be dead wrong, but just saying from what I've observed.

Simple if you wish to learn the language then do it if not then decline.
I wouldn't mind learning. Not sure how much I'd be able to retain in the process but I'm always willing to learn languages and cultural info.
