Are women becoming desparate? (single, younger, family, American)

Unless a guy is making it really obvious he's into me (staring at me, standing very close to me, making sexual innuendo) I just assume he's being nice.
I don't think women are desperate but I think as a culture we have confused things so much between the sexes that sometimes it is hard to read another person's signals. If you read any of the posts from the men on here you'll find the same thing.

I saw a piece on one of the morning shows the other day that talked about how people spend so much time interacting with screens (computers, phones, TVs, etc.) that they're losing the ability to read body language and social cues.
I KNOW I'm going to catch a lot of crap for this thread but the new threads really got me thinking like the one about the wink and the one about the guy being friendly.
The women posting these just seem desparate to me. Here is why. I am a woman, if a guy looks at me and smiles, or winks or is overly friendly - the last thing I think is that he's "interested" in me LOL I mean seriously - I'm a very confident woman so maybe that has something to do with it but I've had friends telling me that a guy is flat out flirting and I never notice.
Are some women just so overly lacking self confidence that they turn simple gestures into "omg, he must really want me"!
Just curious what my CD friends think...

I can believe that.
I saw a piece they did where they switched the person people were talking to by creating a quick diversion and most never realized it wasnt the same person.

LOL. Usually it's guys who make this mistake. I've lost of how many times a guy would have a girl smile or be friendly with him and he'd come away convinced that she was interested in him.
You know, considering what's going on out there, I'm not that hard on desperation, but yes, some women do go too far...
Ha-ha, exactly! If he's hot, he's confident and interesting; if he isn't, he's a needy creep. Well, it is what it is... It's not like I don't do it myself.
Even so. Even IF the guy is crazy hot - I just don't even notice. I am not looking for the attention anyway but if I get it, I don't think the dude wants me LOL.
I thought sierra was madly in love with me and that's why she always would rep me.
But alas, it turned out that it was actually betamanlet who was in love with you!
