How do you feel about dating folks in the second category... does the type of relationship they have with their pet ever "get in the way" and take priority over their human relationships?
Or as one website puts it, "Are Single Women (or Men) With Dogs, The New 'Spinsters With Cats'... or something like that?"
I have a dog. I have a freaking cute dog. I post a lot of pictures of him online and I'm afraid there are some that think I'm one of *those* dog owners, but the truth is, everyone loves my little fella, so I keep posting pics of him.
If someone thinks I'm crazy for liking my dog so much, then they aren't for me. Obviously they haven't taken the time to get to know me
I love my cat, but that only does not mean anything when it comes to a relationship. It depends on compatibility, not just on the fact that one of the 2 people loves his/her pet.
i thought it was "cute", for a little while... that is until i started to see it in a different light.
a lot of women treat their dogs/cats as some freak replacement for a husband and/or child. i find this unsettling, but this doesn't necessarily make them "not relationship material."
I try to avoid people with pets, even moreso people who love their pets a little too much. Pets are for children. Grown adults who still go nuts over an animal often had a very sheltered life.
I had a pet that I had a very special connection with and never had that with another one. But I didn't push that on anyone, keep talking about her or make a big deal, expecting everyone else to think she was so cute and special. I think the difference is just keeping perspective.

Many times a good dog replaces the kids after they've left home. They are the best medicine for the depressed, the elderly or the ill.
I would not want to tell my wife "It's me or the dog". I know who would probably stay.

Unless you're talking about socialites like Paris Hilton who carries her dog around in a purse, I don't think this is true at all. In fact, pets are often brought in to nursing homes and children's hospitals as therapy dogs or cats. My Mom's dog is a "therapy dog" for the kids and adults on the autistic spectrum we work with. They love her.
Some people love animals, and it's not like being a child and wanting a pony, something most people grow out of (though I still want a pony ). They're simply "pet people". Some people don't understand it. Some people go a little crazy with "cute outfits" and pedicures and things like that... that's over the top to me.
