While having a house built can add stress to a relationship if the project strains the marriage to the point of divorce the foundation of the relationship was probably already shaky.

No it's about two idiots who build a house neither of them can afford, but they thought they both can afford. Fuzzy math!

And they just bought the last kiddo an iThing shortly before the divorce

Absolutely not.
But the reality is: it happens.

Kiddos, don't let this happen to YOU.

Two people I know both older than me and a lot richer built nice homes. They both did the same thing and that is they built a livable space completely furnished for the family to live in while the home building dragged on. One guy had the basement rec room built and completed first. kitchenette, two bed rooms and a bath. He said when they ran out of money they lived in it for a year. The other guy remodeled an out building ( on the farm) and they lived in it with the kids until their house was finished. The out building eventually became a home business.

Every agent can tell you many horror stories. I had one couple who had a choice... she could have a $50k wedding or they could cut back and buy a nice starter home. They fought the whole time we were together and ended up getting both.

We sold the house recently when they split up.

Working with couples buying, building or selling you get to know them personally and it's not always pretty.
