If I am gone cold turkey, I don't need it, barley think about it, but once I get it, well, it's not good...... maybe I should wait for marriage the next time around......I am afraid to break the seal again.
For the most part I don't because it's a natural and healthy drive and only a few disturbed individuals probably turn it into something self destructive. Everybody also needs water or even oxygen but I've never heard of anyone being referred to as a water addict. As someone else stated it's just become one of those overused terms that has become popular for some reason.

Yes it's a real condition but I believe some claim it, not in order to fix it, but to try to attract others who might be interested, maybe even claim to be addicted. It's over-used, I'm sure.
Desire for sex is not a human defect, but all behavioral addictions are. I think the problem with people coming to terms with the reality of sexual addiction as a problem, is that either some think it's cool and not something that needs fixing or 2) it's been used to excuse people who sleep with more than just one partner.
A behavioral addiction is a compulsion that generally cannot be stopped, regardless of the consequences to that person or their surroundings.
There are many behavioral addictions: gambling, eating, masturbating, video games, shopping and even exercise and working. It's the extent of the behavior and at what price that determines if it's an addiction and yes, IMO, it exists and it's underlying cause is a human behavioral defect.

The label 'sex-addict' originates in America. Where else? Not a surprise, is it?
Anyone who is aware of social attitudes outside the US would know that Americans on the theme of sex provide plenty of hilarious absurd entertainment for the outside world. Americans are prudes, but deny it. God Bless America!

Funny how on the one hand some claim American Women to be gold-digging ho's and on the other hand uptight prudes. Gee, which is it already?
FWIW, as far as I know, analysis of human & social behavior can be traced as far back as ancient civilizations and philosophers. Modern day psychology/psychiatry is rooted in the works of European physicians and academics... so what's your point exactly... do tell?
I will co-sign on God Bless America though. There is no other country in the world I would rather live in and raise my children, TYVM.
No, you're normal. If you get caught cheating, then you can always whip out the "sex addict" excuse. Sex addict is another label to excuse people from personal responsibility. I'm sure there are a few real ones, but when there is a surge in "cases", I'm immediately suspicious that a new disorder has been invented so that someone can specialize in curing it.
Hmmm.. Where have I heard this sort of thing before???
Oh yeah!
"I'm fat! It's a disorder I have."
(As they woof down a donut in front of you)
"I drink too much cause I have this disorder."
"I cheated on you cause I have this disorder...I'm a sex addict."
"I killed them cause I am 'insane' and have this disorder."
Wait!!! I think I may qualify for "disability!!!"
Should I go on????
Yeah, many people are shifting the blame on someone or something else instead of taking the responsibility for their actions.
Sorry, I will clarify. My point was, some people are simply weaker than others. That doesn't make them a "sex addict", in my book. It means they allow themselves to form unhealthy habits. Not "addictions", in the true sense of the word, to me anyway..
Then I would have to ask, what IS a behavioural addiction in the "true" sense of the word? How does one form? How does it affect the individual, to what degree and what propensity before it's a "real" addiction versus just bad behaviour (and I DO believe there are differences)?
In short, WHAT would be the separation between a behavioural addiction and just bad behaviour?

Social behavior has been analyzed, but with little understanding. Religion did the analyzing. People thought various 'abnormal' behavior was demonic possession, and often treated as such.
But in which country did the term 'sex-addiction' originate?
I'll bet it's the USA. And done with a whole of religious influence. What other nation has such twisted (and bizarre) views of sex?
America is a prude society. That's an American tradition. Americans are too immature for sex.

Equating sex with murder? Sounds like 'good ole American gospel style reasoning'.
In what way is sex destructive?
