Having grown up in the era where such stuff was common thinking and watching the changes reminds me of something from my past.
Back in the early '80s I had applied to a local Sheriffs Department for a police officer job. If you passed the physical and did well enough on the written test you got an oral interview. One of the questions was what would I think of having a women partner if I had to quell a bar fight. Because of the womens equality movement there was mandates about hiring more women.
Not being blind to the times, I gave a good PC answer. Though I will admit, I did not think women being on police forces was a good idea at that age of my life. Did not get hired right away and joined the Navy 7 mos. later instead. (Interesting enough I got a letter from the Sheriffs Dept. while I was in Boot camp offering me a position. Always strange how events work out.) Never did go into Law enforcement.
So nowadays I am a reluctant reformed chauvinist pig. (luckily the younger gals are more tolerant of us old pigs).
1970 Childrens book....interesting. Written by a man who's ego couldn't handle feminism and women breaking out of traditional roles. Figured influencing the next generation would slow down the process. Talk about an agenda...

Amen, brother - same here!
Your story reminds me of Clint Eastwood's The Enforcer, where they partner him up with Tyne Daly. The scene where they give him a "theoretical scenario" was hilarious!
Some of the TV shows I watched as a hatchling would be seen today as pure male chauvinism, granted, but I've managed to survive into "maturity" even though infused with those anti-PC ideas...

Yes, I remember that from the movie. It was part and parcel of a different era. Even the Navy had a lot of sensitivity training for the guys about allowing women to take on new roles. I do not know if that stuff is still required these days.

Me neither - I escaped the corporate world when they were just starting to introduce "Quality Training" - my last memories were of wasting several days at plush hotel seminars eating free food and receiving Lucite plaques proclaiming "I Embody Quality"
Wow, I'm surprised to find you only with a few hairs plucked, but overall still alive! The day is young, though!
