I'm almost surprised they're still publishing, but it looks like they still have some good articles. It used to have a very small-time Mom-and-Pop feel to it, which I preferred over Mother's later "conversion" to big-business methods.
Phil if I could do it, I'd love to be in the mountains have a small cabin or cottage even. A workshop. I'd still want to be connected to the outside world the internet is important. If I am stranded, I'd have food, fuel and provisions. And if I could work from home I would.

Same here, brother. I made one attempt at switching from urban to jungle - it failed miserably because I hadn't fully taken into account how the wife and young son would react once they were there. It looked good on paper and when visiting it a few times in nice weather - after we moved in and were snowed in for 5 days, tensions began to run high. We ended the experiment at that point, but now I wouldn't be adverse to trying it again as a solo act.

I went through a phase where I though that's what I wanted as well. Truth is, I need the balance of urban and rural in my life. Too much of either starts to tilt the scales.

Balance is good, no doubt about it. But I think I tipped my scales early on, growing up and living in large cities for the first half of my life. I could get into total isolation now (with Net access, of course, as SD mentioned ) - I've had my fill of "major metropolitan areas".
Note to Creamy: Yes, I'll take a goodly supply of strippers. In the winter, they're better than grubs for survival. Mother Earth News says so.
You know, I think I need to take a little vacation from this place. Why? I'm not allowed to say.
Later, all.
Hope you come back soon. Don't let the fools suck you in.

I grew up on a ranch so I am used to solitude. I lived in town for 11 years and am back on the ranch. I like being connected to the outside world.
