You're definitely not a loser if you're trying to make a new set of friends with the similar interests and beliefs as you. Don't stick with a group of friends if they don't make you happy.
Does it sound like you are a loser, if you would like to find new friends?
I would say no. Have you recently moved? I'm asking because location can make a huge difference in that respect. If you move to an area with little influx from people outside the area and most of the people being lifelong residents, making friends will be an issue because of clannishness. They've never been in a situation where they moved to an area where they knew absolutley nobody.
It depends what one means by loser (or lose for that matter). Somebody successful could be a loser, should they commit an indiscretion. Look at Charlie Sheen, or Tiger Woods. What defines loss is relative, and generally I don't like to label others as pathetic. It's just some empty pop culture BS concept.

key word is new.
i wouldn't go around saying, "i want some friends."
