To be honest - I never knew that "female" could be an offensive term until I saw this thread. What is it about that word that people find offensive? I don't know if I've heard people use it a lot or not since I probably wouldn't have noticed or thought anything of it being used if I had.
For real. It's not that serious to get offended over the term "female" Some women (they know who they are) need to develop thick skin. You don't see men getting offended over the term "male". Next thing you know, women are going to get offended over the term "woman"
As I said, in certain circles calling each other "bit*ch" is also perfectly acceptable.
While I can see why someone would get offended at the B word - I still don't understand why female is offensive. I'm not trying to stir up trouble or anything - I just never knew that female was an offensive term.
I'm not sure what we call women in my social circle - maybe women? Girls if they are younger (although I still call myself a girl quite often and I'm 34!)? I've really never thought about it. I guess maybe I use the word woman mostly... I'm not really sure.
In my circles we're called women and I don't plan to venture into alternative circles myself.
Well to each their own sierra, but they do some pretty neat things in alternative circles. Summoning the dead, awakening the goddess within, praising the earth mother, blood orgies, etc.
When someone is using the word female in the "look at them females in the string bikinis" context, then yes, it is quite annoying. However, if you are the type of person who would use the word female in that context, I am glad you are saying it. It lets me know what kind of person you are and I will know that I can't have an intelligent conversation with you. Thanks for showing your true colors.
ummm I never really thought of it, but I suppose there is a context in which a man could use it that would get me agitated. And then u know what I would say "YO MOMMA!!!"

I guess if someone said that - it would be an indication of what type of person they are - but the word female in it of itself doesn't really have a negative or positive connotation to me. I am a female. Someone saying, "Look at them women in the string bikinis" or "Look at them girlies in the string bikinis" would pretty much sound the same to me. I can't imagine anyone I know saying something like that - so perhaps I've just never heard "female" in the way that people find offensive.

That's one of my pet peeves. Yo mama jokes were never funny. I'm happy people don't use the saying "yo mama" as much as they used to.
Or maybe yo mama jokes are still popular in middle school/high school but I don't notice anymore since I'm in college.

That's because you're a female so they don't say it around you
"yo mama"-jokes are still funny when you're heavily hammered
I never thought "female" was offensive... but then again I don't speak the language on an everyday basis...
