I have done so and had a wonderful time doing the things I love when I felt like it. Of course, vacationing with someone you love who is into the same things on the same timeframe can be even better, as you get to share the experience. Even so, some experiences may be best when you're alone.
Anytime I have vacationed by myself I have had a great time and have met some wonderful people, some I still stay in contact with. Many have also visited me when they were in my area.
Wonderful! Seriously, my best vacations have been solo when, as others have commented, I've enjoyed my own company, seen things through my own eyes without the distraction of another's alternative view, and met some wonderful people who never thought it even the least bit peculiar that I would be adventuring alone.
I’ve travelled on my own and it has a different twist. I am not sure if I like going in groups more than going alone really. Each has something that I like but so far my favorite would be travelling with a girl.
I did it when I was single. Went to New Zealand for an entire month. It was weird at first, but then discovered that it allowed me to meet all kinds of people. I stayed in youth hostels, etc., and hung out with people I would have never met had I had another person in tow.
I've done it and although it has its advantages and disadvantages, all in all they were great experiences. However, if I went back and did it again, I would probably do it with a friend or romantic partner this time. It was scary and intimidating at times, especially when I went to the touristy spots where everyone was with family or friends. Being a female and young, I also got a lot of looks and unwanted attention. If you don't mind going to resturants and places by yourself, then by all means. The advantages are that you have noone to answer to, you can do whatever you want, whenever you feel like it.
