We often hear about when is a good time to get married, and many sources say 25 or later, though I disagree with that. But what we never hear about is when is the youngest acceptable age to get engaged.

I personally think 16 or 17 should be the earliest, but only if the couple is ready and they maybe have a long engagement. However, 15 and younger isn't acceptable to me.

If I had a child who was 16 or 17 and became engaged, I would fully support my child, but advise to wait until 18-21 to marry though.

What do you think?

I don't believe in being engaged....you either marry, or you don't!

it depends on the person.

i would say for the average person, not before 25 or maybe even 30.

i, on the other hand, married at 19 and am as deeply in love with my hubby now, as i was 14 years ago

but we are the odd ones out - my one sister married at 20? had an affair and left her hubby and kids. the other sister did the same at the same age.

all of our friends we know who married that young also had similar stories.

so... it really depends on the people involved.

I think you are very young and what you believe today will likely change as you grow and mature

Yes, that is true. What I thought only a couple years ago, I don't think anymore.

But I do have a half-brother who married at 16 and he and his wife will be celebrating 12 years of marriage next month. Before my brother proposed to her, they only knew each other for 4 months. I have to say that's pretty impressive for being so young.

There are always exceptions to every rule.

And I do hope your step-brothers marriage makes it for the long haul, but it's only been 12 years.

Statistically he'll live approximately 50 more years. His marriage still has a long way to go!

Most marriages that I know of that started that young end when the last child graduates from high school and moves on. Just sayin'...

It's better than having a baby that's for sure.
