That's the problem I've run into... I already have the odds stacked against me physically (6'1, tattoos, surgery scars) and then add onto that the fact that I'm an ASE certified auto tech, hold an engineering degree and I'm working on getting my A&P certain (aircraft mechanic) and that whittled down potential suitors to around.... 5 men total
So, I just go win it and I don't expect men to be interested. I've already had way too many run away mid courtship to really try anymore.
I'm a girly girl, but who wears jeans instead of dresses on a daily basis. If I go out to dance with a guy, I like to wear sexy low cut dresses and get my hair pretty. I don't watch any kind of sports and am not into the sports crowd at all. I prefer a man who likes to work with his hands on a car, or is artistic in some way and paints or builds things. I'm all for the doer type of guy, instead of a guy who watches sports on TV religiously every Sunday. If his hobbies are doing things with his hands, that's my preference.
Having said this, I believe that all men are different and a man who watches sports is all about the team. He would probably like a woman who is also all about the team as well. You are hanging out with the right crowd for yourself, I think, and shouldn't change. I think what your friends were referring to was that since you like to change your own oil and do masculine type of things, that a man might get turned off if someday you surprise him by acting like you are more masculine than him and proceed to tell him the proper way to change a tire. That would be a terrible turn off. But as long as that doesn't happen, you don't have to worry too much, imo.
I'm into sports, will watch most sports, attend the games- enjoy being outside throwing a ball around .... however I also wear dresses when needed, makeup, like to shop.
I've never liked stereotypes - just be yourself, some guys will find it attractive and some won't.

I agree with this. I'm 100% more attracted to women who are themselves.
I would say, however, that on average we tend to like girls who look feminine (by an overwhelming number), and who act like tomboys (by a more modest margin).
edit: this may not hold true across social and geographical barriers -- no one has a fully representative experience, certainly not I
Ah,no. I wanted to stay in a certain area and there really isn't a big calling for aerospace engineers, so I went back into aircraft maintenance.
