I have rarely been hit on outside of the bar scene post college, but I do remember this older lady really laying it on me about 3 years ago. I was single at the time, but she was my mom's age. I entertained her for a bit, but couldn't go through with it.
To be brutally honest, when an unattractive person hits on me it makes me wonder what they're thinking, going for someone so out of their league. But I guess it makes sense to go after anyone you find attractive, even if its a long shot.
I once had a very gay man ask me out. He was an ex ballerina hairdresser who was out at the bar with his mom. Now THAT was a beard date. Well, would have been, if we had actually gone out.
Says the guy who judged a whole generation based off of one person's thread, even though nearly every response contradicted the OPs viewpoint.
I work with and have went to school with millenials and I am even (unfortunately) related to a few. They are the entitlement generation. They all think they have ADHD, and they think they can multi-task although they can't and they suck at it. It is what it is.
Oh to answer the OP's question, yes, I do get offended because I take it as a reflection of self. It's a flaw that I have and I wish that I didn't. I am pretty much an average looking guy and I would rate myself about a 5 on a 10 scale.
I recently had to go to the hospital because I got sick, and while waiting, two girls walked in. I started checking out the cute one and the ugly one started checking me out. The problem with that was the ugly one was easily 300lbs! She could have swallowed me up whole! I was like are you serious? It always works that way, several friends and I will hit on the cute one and the ugliest one in the group will try for me and that of course makes the others girls back off because they want to give their friend "a chance". Ugh.
I'll admit it. I do, but not because I think I'm all that ... it's because I'm married. When I do get blantantly hit on, which is rare, it's from unattractive women who know I'm married.
