You are right in a way, yes they put the bar too high for their own good, but I still think they're a different kind of desperate because they still want a man badly.
I agree, they are desperate for an archetype that does not exist. It's like playing the lottery as a desperate grasp for income.

If they wanted a man badly, then they'd eventually lower their standards. But that's not what these men are doing. They're simply saying "there's nothing good out there so I'm going to just stay single until something good does come along." That doesn't sound at all desperate to me.
Not only will Mr Nice Guy not know what to say he will think she is after his "gold" and that she is a **** because she has had more sexual experience than he has had.
