You guys know that coffee shops provide other beverages and drinks besides coffee, right? Some of your responses make it sound as you've never stepped foot in a coffee shop before.

Same thing I thought. Coffee isn't so literal.
I wouldn't mind. I don't online date, so we're there to talk. I'll go to see, if there's some chemistry. The coffee can lead into something else within the day.
It's a casual, relaxing way to converse with little pressure. A first date should be just that. move on from there to dinner, museum, film etc if there are things in common and chemistry. Dating can be confusing enough.

Yeah but when I want to drink the last thing I want to do is go to the local coffee shop and hang out with hipster dorks.
I hate the idea of a coffee first date. It feels too interview like, just you them, the table and some questions. It makes me want to get up and walk around. I think it also sets a boring first impression.
Not a good point. I'm surprised Onglet, you are from NYC and still associate coffee shops with hipster dorks.
Are you kidding? NYC, especially Brooklyn (where i live) is the home planet of hipster dorks. Coffee shops are filled with guys wearing skin tight jeans and big porn-style eyeglasses.
